What they NEVER told you in Art Class.
Ever wonder how Artist's find their muse? Or even How it works? Well, I used to think, like most people, that you have to be some beautiful temptress who demands attention in order to be a muse. Basically, some goddess must walk by and open all your creative pores for you to annoit him...or her..your inspirational pimple lol. Yea. No. Not at all.
First of all, they never really talk about Muses in class whatsoever. They don't tell you how to find one, or rather, how to make one find you. That in itseld is what makes my job very hard. I focus on live drawing, meaning...people. I have a deep focus on women (but I do often paint men) and to constantly be searching for new people is so so annoying.
Plus, it doesn't help that everyone wants to be painted....EVERYONE.
So how does someone who is making a collection find enough faces that she likes, (because I am...very picky ) without making her collection boring or obsessive...so to speak.
I stumbled upon by muse by means of an art assignment. I needed to paint a face, and I also needed to add a peice to my collection, so I sent a group message to all the girls I had silently watched from street corners lol. It just so happened that the person I really wanted wasn't available but her sister was.
I figured she would do, but I was worried because her face seemed a lot more distinct that her sisters.
I wouldn't say Magic Happened but I will say Magic Happened.
Painting her was perhaps the Easiest thing in the world, moreso because her face was so editable. It caught shadows and created sontours so well, but I could also manipul
ate her features to look like whatever I wanted, without making it look any less real.
It's funny because you Don't realize How beautiful somebody is until you have their face next to a bright spotlight while they are sitting in a dark room. My Muse Obee... is perhaps the greatest thing I've ever encountered. When I'm lost, I can look at her and get ideas. I couldn't ask for a greater gift.
It also helps thats she's annoying, brilliant, annoying, funny, giving, annoying all at the same time. Which makes time go quicker during long shoots and days when I just need her around to gather energy. They don't tell you that your muse is important to your life in more ways that art. Here's to Obee.
